FAQ

Questions restaurants ask us

Grouped by topic. If yours isn't here, ask — we answer within one business day and add good questions to this page.

Getting started

How long does setup take?

Most restaurants are live within an hour. You add your menu (photo, spreadsheet or by typing), we generate QR cards, and your first order can run the same day. A setup call with our team is included.

Do I need special hardware?

No. The POS runs on any tablet, laptop or phone; the kitchen display on any tablet or Android TV; QR ordering on guests' own phones. Receipt and kitchen printers connect over Wi-Fi.

Can I import my existing menu?

Yes — upload a photo or PDF and it's extracted for you to review, or import a spreadsheet using our template.

Is it available in French?

Yes. Every app, the QR menu, receipts and support are available in English and French.

Ordering & kitchen

Does QR ordering need an app?

No. Guests scan and order in their phone's browser. Nothing to download.

What happens to an order after a guest places it?

It goes to the kitchen display (or printer) for the right station immediately, appears on the POS for the table, and the guest gets a status update. Bumping the ticket in the kitchen marks it ready.

Can servers still take orders the normal way?

Yes. QR is an extra lane. Servers use the waiter app or POS; everything lands in the same order list.

Does it handle Uber Eats / DoorDash?

Direct integrations are on the roadmap. Today, delivery orders can be entered on the POS like any other order.

Plans & billing

What does the trial include?

Everything in the plan you choose, for 14 days. A card is required to start; nothing is charged during the trial, and we remind you 2 days before the first payment.

When am I billed?

All subscriptions bill on the 5th of the month. Your first invoice is prorated from the end of your trial. Upgrades are prorated immediately; downgrades are credited on the next invoice.

Is there a contract?

No. Monthly plans can be cancelled any time and end at the end of the period. Annual plans are refundable within 14 days, then pro rata.

Who charges my card?

Paddle, our merchant of record. "PADDLE.NET* ONYXDINE" appears on your statement and Paddle issues the receipt, with GST/HST/QST included.

Can I run several branches?

Max includes 2 branches; more can be added at $49/month each. Every branch is managed from one dashboard.

Data & security

Who owns my data?

You do. Menus, orders, customers, reports — all exportable any time, and for 30 days after you cancel.

Is my data backed up?

Yes, daily, with encrypted storage. The POS keeps working offline if your internet drops and syncs when it's back.

Can staff see everything?

No. Role-based access means a server sees tables and orders; a manager sees reports; only the owner sees billing and settings.

Support

When is support available?

8am–12am ET, 7 days a week, by in-app chat and email (hello@onyxdine.com). Order- or POS-affecting issues are answered first.

What if something breaks during dinner service?

Message in-app chat with "POS down" — those go to the front of the queue and are treated as emergencies.
